Walenty Szczepaniak and Victoria Slatowski
were married 8 January 1872 in Wyandotte, Wayne County, Michigan by a
traveling Catholic Priest believed to be from Detroit. Family stories have it that
this was an arranged marriage by people that knew both Walenty and Victoria
and basically matched them up.
Story also has it that Victoria was supposed to be a housekeeper and arrived to the United States
by herself.
Walenty and Victoria had 16 children together.
An interesting tidbit
(again, family story) was that Walenty spoke only Polish and Victoria spoke only German.
Note: I have since found that Victoria came with her parents and siblings and had settled in Detroit. |
